Expanded Valence Shells Example

During lecture today, the slide said "EX: S in sulfate ion" and then the rest of the work was for phosphorus pentachloride. Are these separate problems?

Yes. During my lecture class, Professor Lavelle worked the problems out on the board.

Yes, Dr. Lavelle used the sulfate ion example to show how to calculate formal charge and the phosphorus pentachloride example to show exceptions to the octet rule (expanded valence shells).
