Various Lewis Structures

Why is it that although an element may have more than one Lewis Structure, one is more correct than the others?

One version of a Lewis structure may be more stable than the others. So, If it is more stable, it is "better" than the other variations of the Lewis Structure.

Generally speaking, the more "correct" Lewis dot structures have minimal formal charges. (Minimal formal charge = more stable)
