Incomplete Octet

Postby Natallie K 3B » Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:49 am

I know that the elements B and Al form incomplete octets with 6 valence electrons in their valence shell. What about the other elements in that row, such as Ga, In, and Tl. Do they have incomplete octets too?

I'm not sure (though I would guess not because 3d starts showing up) but the information I can contribute is that this isn't something we're expected to know in Chemistry 14A. So if there's a question about it, it will likely specify.

No, the other elements in the row aren't as prone to forming an incomplete octet as elements like B and Al. Other elements, however, such as H, do form incomplete octets.
