Quiz Questions

Postby 004638100 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 1:11 am

On the quiz there were several questions regarding lowest energy lewis structures. While solving it out there was a situation where I had to draw the lewis structure for NO. I was able to draw a triple bond but then I was wondering for a linear shape do both atoms have to have +0 charge? Or is it okay for only one to have +0?

I think that's okay. The formal charge doesn't really change the shape of a molecule. Only regions of electron density will contribute to the overall shape. Also I think you mean a charge of 0 not +0. Hope this helps you out.
