Accuracy
Are lewis structures the most accurate depiction of structures, because i thought that these structures appear in 3D space.
Re: Accuracy
no they are not the most accurate representation of the structure. they are just simple models that help us understand the behavior of bonding. a we learned in class, resonance cannot be perfectly captured through lewis structures, but they give us a sort of sense of how electrons bond.

Re: Accuracy
Lewis structures are definitely not the most accurate models. Lewis structures are 2D models while actual molecules are 3D. There are many things that come into play when something is 3D that is difficult to express with 2D models.

Re: Accuracy
They are definitely not. But they do help us get a better idea of how the atom looks in respect to electron configuration.

Re: Accuracy
Although Lewis Structures may not be the most accurate, they are still very important because knowing the Lewis structure of an atom allows you to know how it will bond and how many bonds it will form :)

Re: Accuracy
Hello!!
Rather than the Lewis structure, the electron cloud model is currently the most accurate and widely used model. This is because the electron cloud model depicts the orbital paths as not absolute but rather regions in which electrons are most likely to be found.

Re: Accuracy
The Lewis structure is most certainly not the most accurate representation of molecules, merely it is a 2D model that helps us to understand the bonding of electrons in the valence shell of the molecules. However, in reality, molecules are 3D structures that require much more complicated diagrams to truly be accurate.
