Homework #10

Arrange these bonds from most ionic to most covalent in character.
When determining whether each bond is more ionic, when all the bonds have the same element, we are able to tell by seeing which is the farthest from the shared bond. What if they all didn't have the same element? how would we be able to tell which bond is the most ionic.

In order to tell the ionic character of a bond, you would want to compare the difference in electronegativity of the atoms in the bond. So, if the problem had all different atoms for each molecule they asked about, you would just want to calculate, or estimate if you dont have the exact values, the difference in electronegativity between the molecules, and whichever bonds have the highest difference exhibit more ionic character than the others.
