HW Problem 3.95

Question: Draw resonance structures for the trimethylenemethane anion C(CH2)32 in which a central carbon atom is attached to three CH2 groups (CH2 groups are referred to as methylene).

I got the resonance structures correct, but in the solutions manual, one of the CH2's is written as "H2C". Can anybody explain why and am I able to keep my answer the way I have it?

"H2C" is merely the same as "CH2", except the first is a way to show placement of the hydrogens. Since the bonds are not on hydrogen, it becomes easier to write it as H2C-C to show that the bonds are in fact between carbon.

It may be preferable to keep your answer when writing out the formulas. Even though your answer is technically correct, it may be better to draw the structures as explained above for the sake of convention.
