6th Edition 3.21

For the Calcium+2 ion, would you have to write out the entire ground state configuration, or would you just be able to write [Ar].

Both would be correct to identify the ion. If you want to show where the electrons are more specifically, you should do the entire ground state configuration, which is probably the best way to answer the question.

I think you can write both out because they are the same configurations.
