Bond lengths & number of resonance structures

Postby rkang00 » Tue Nov 27, 2018 9:54 pm

How does the number of resonance structures determine bond length? Do we end up having more bond lengths to average out?

That video might help clarify resonance structures and bond lengths.

A molecule's structure is an average of all resonance structures so the bond lengths would be an average

The average number of resonance structures determine the shape, therefore it is an average number of bond lengths.
