Achieve problem 4

Postby Sophia B 3G » Thu Oct 28, 2021 12:50 pm

I am having trouble creating lewis structure C. I understand how to make a resonance structure by changing the C and O double bond, and got that structure correct, but for the N and C double bond I am having trouble with the charges. If anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Since you added a double bond between N and C, you can find the charge using the FC equation. Since N has 5 valence electrons, 4 bonds but no lone pairs, 5-4= +1 charge on the N.

This was really helpful. I didn't realize to use FC for this. Thank you.
