A tip for calculating formal charge  [ENDORSED]

Postby Ilan Shavolian 1K » Mon Nov 13, 2017 1:49 am

Instead of counting each dot and dividing bonds by two, a tip I learned was just to count each component. one dot/ one line= one component. then subtract that from the valence electrons.

I️ agree with this tip! It helps to prevent errors in calculation which can ruin your Lewis structure
