Transition metals & their oxidations states

Postby 005199750 » Fri Dec 07, 2018 8:53 pm

Why can transition metals occupy several different oxidation states? Why does this make them very useful for electron transfer?

Transition metals have the highest number of unpaired valence electrons which are unstable and will want to form bonds, allowing for several different oxidation states.
