Sapling Question #5

Postby Xinyu Li 1C » Sun Dec 06, 2020 7:43 pm

For each metal complex, give the coordination number for the metal species.
[Pt(en)Cl2]

Are we expected to know the name and denticity for ligands like ethylenediamine(en) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane(dppe) on the midterms?

I'm assuming this would be given on the exam along with the names of compounds that we are not familiar with.

I really hope not, but I would assume things like that would be given to us.

I'm not sure what to expect, but since it is present in the chart about common ligands in the book, I'd recommend you memorize the dentition numbers of (en), (dien), and (edta). (en) is a bidentate, (dien) is a tridentate, and (edta) is a hexadentate. Hopefully they will be kind to us though!
