Lewis Acids and Bases

Postby Ruby 1l » Wed Nov 15, 2023 11:49 pm

What is a lewis acid and a lewis base? What do we need to know about them and how are they different from other reactions?

Lewis acids can be understood as electron poor and lewis bases can be understood as electron rich. Bases donate electrons to acids and this is the prmise of the interaction between the two. Reactions between the two could include coordinate covalent bonds.

Lewis acids and bases are defined based on their ability to accept or donate electron pairs, making the Lewis acid-base theory more versatile and applicable to a variety of chemical reactions compared to other acid-base theories.
