expended octet maximum?

What is the maximum number of bonds an element with an expanded octet can have? What does this depend on?

I believe that since the d-orbital only goes up till spots for 10 electrons, the maximum number of bonded electrons can be 10.

The maximum number of bonds such an element can form depends on its position in the periodic table and the availability of d orbitals for bonding.
