F orbitals
When do f orbitals come into play when considering chemical bonds and lewis structures? In the same way that atoms can fill up their d orbitals, can even larger atoms fill up their f orbitals too??
Re: F orbitals
Yes, any atom that has a principle quantum number of n=4 or greater can have electrons in the f subshell

Re: F orbitals
yes as you move down the periodic table f ortibals come in. f sub shell has 7 orbitals so it can fit 14 electrons

Yes, you don't have to worry about the f orbitals until you reach lanthanum and all the elements after lanthanum

Re: F orbitals
f orbitals come into play once you get to lanthanides and actinides, but I don't think you will need to know anything about how the f orbital works in lewis structures or bonding for chem 14A. However, they typically follow the same rules as s, p, and d block elements.
