Lattice energy

Postby Leslie Contreras 1D » Wed May 23, 2018 7:59 am

There is an example in the book about identifying the greater lattice energy?
it said the ionic radius of NaCl is less but what does that have to do with lattice energy?

Section 3.4 won't be covered as part of this class.

The equation for the interaction of charges (ions or other particles) is
Therefore, smaller distance between charges (smaller ionic radii) means more negative energy (since q1 and q2 have opposite signs), or larger lattice energy.
