Maximum number of electrons in expanded octet

Postby jadam_1E » Wed May 23, 2018 9:52 am

Hi all,
For an expanded octet, is there a limit to the number of valence electrons in the valence shells? Thanks.

The most electrons you can add to an expanded octet is 10 because ultimately, you're filling up the d orbital and that can only hold up to 10.
