Tungsten Electronic Configuration

Why is the electronic configuration for tungsten [Xe]4f^14 5d^4 6s^2? I thought that the d-subshell wants to have half-filled orbitals, so that the electronic configuration would be [Xe]4f^14 5d^5 6s^1.

I asked Professor Lavelle about this question during office hours and he said he did not realize that this was included on the homework, and that he is taking it off for next year because it is more complicated than we need to know. I think he also did an explanation somewhere on Chemistry Community of why this is the case if you really want to know, but I wouldn't worry about understanding it because he said it's beyond the scope of this class.
