Whats the maximum number of electrons an expanded octet can have?

For the purposes of this class, 10 electrons, because that is how many can fit in the d orbital. But if we were working with the f orbital, I assume it would be more.

Today in a review session the TA said 18, but I have not encountered in problems that use electrons past 10.

Are there any expanded octet that we have to memorize? Or do we have know based on the d-orbitals?

in class the examples of elements with expanded orbitals went up to 10.
