A ligand is a species that donates both of its e- in order to form a coordinate covalent bond. This can be a neutral molecule like ammonia (NH3) or an ion like Cl- .

A ligand is an ion or molecule that binds to a central atom with a coordinate covalent bond to form a complex. If you remember the reference to Lewis acids and bases, a ligand is the Lewis base that donates a lone pair of electrons.

Hi! Ligands also are electron-rich species that contain extra electrons/electrons in general (for example, Lewis Bases can be ligands). Cl- was an example discussed in class, as it has a full valence shell of 8 electrons. Another example from class was NH3, which has a lone pair of electrons that it can donate. These extra electrons are usually donated to the central metal cation in coordinate compounds.

Ligands donate electron pairs and act as lewis bases. They also form complexes with cations and usually fill the complexes unfilled orbitals. Ligands are useful in pharmaceuticals and drug treatments as well as chemotherapy. Hope this helps!

Hello! A ligand is any atom/ molecule which is attached to a central atom in a coordination/ complex compound. Ligands tend to act like Lewis bases by donating electron pairs and the central atom acts as the Lewis acid by being the electron pair acceptor. I hope this helps!

I don't know if this is helpful but Dr. Lavelle started the discussion about ligands on Monday of Week 8 and that lecture was super helpful to me when trying to understand ligands!
