Naming - Prefixes

Postby Patricia Macalalag 2E » Tue Dec 05, 2017 9:40 pm

How do we know when to use the prefixes: bis-, tris-, tetrakis-, etc.?

Hey,
You use the prefixes bis-, tris-, or tetrakis-, when the ligand is a polydentate.

If a ligand already contains a Greek prefix then the those prefixes are used. For example, if a ligand has a name with -di or -tri in it then you would use those prefixes.
