Polarizability

What makes a compound polar, and how can we identify its polarizability?

A polar compound has unequally shared electrons. this occurs in a bond between elements of unequal electronegativity, and when the polar bonds do not cancel out. The polarizability of a molecule just refers to if it's polar or not, so to determine polarizability you can check if a compound has polar bonds and if the bonds are symmetrical or not.

Hi, just to add on, a polar molecule must have polar bonds with dipoles that do not cancel and the less amount of polar bonds that cancel each other out in a molecule, the higher the dipole moment will be.
