Polarizing Power: Size vs. Charge
When determining the polarizing power of a cation, which is more important: size of the cation or charge of the cation?

Re: Polarizing Power: Size vs. Charge
It helps me to know what the trend of sizes are for cations. They generally decrease across a period, and increase down a group (due to the addition of another shell). From there, you can tell that the smaller the cation, the greater its polarizing power. Hope that helps(:

Re: Polarizing Power: Size vs. Charge
First look at charge (greater charge corresponds to higher polarizing power) and then size (smaller atoms have higher polarizing power)
Re: Polarizing Power: Size vs. Charge
Smaller atomic radius cations have more polarizing power. A higher charge also gives more polarizing power

Re: Polarizing Power: Size vs. Charge
So revisiting the original question, does one play a more significant role than the other (size or charge?). If so, why?
