Electronegativity vs. Electron Affinity

Postby AustinW2K » Sat Nov 09, 2024 8:20 pm

Hi! I was just wondering if anyone could clarify what the difference between electron affinity and electronegativity is. Thanks!

Hey!

Electron affinity primarily talks about atoms when they are alone, while electronegativity talks about compounds.

Electron affinity is the energy change when an atom gains an electron while electronegativity is the ability of an atom to attract electrons in covalent bonds.
