Trends in periodic table

On Quiz 2 preparation problem #5 it asks us to pick the atom with highest electron affinity. However, they give us a noble gas and I am not sure if the trends of the periodic table are applied to the noble gases since they aren't reactive? Thank you!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't apply since (as you mentioned) noble gases are stable and nonreactive due to their filled outer shells

I believe that the trend does not apply to noble gases because noble gases already have a full octet. Noble gases do not want another electron because that would mean that they would have to make another shell since their octet is already filled.

Yes, the trends do not apply to the noble gases, and sometimes they go against the trends. For instance, the electron affinity of noble gases would be negative since they don't need that extra e-.

Trends are not applied to noble gas. That is because noble gases has already reached their most stable structure.

A lot of times they ask you to compare trends such as electronegativity, electron affinity, and ionization energy between elements and they include noble gases but in these cases, noble gases are the least electronegative, have the highest ionization energy, and the lowest electron affinity because they do not want to gain or lose electrons. The "goal" for the other elements in gaining/losing electrons is to achieve a noble gas electron configuration.
