## How much can you round down for empirical formulas?

8.5 to 8 is a pretty big jump. I would check your calculations up to that point, its possible that you rounded too early. The rule, according to my TA, for empirical formulas, is that you can round up or down if the value is within 5% of that rounded value.

Ya I heard 5%, but I think also if it's not a number that can't really be multiplied to get a whole number, then it should be close enough to round up or down

My PLF said that for example if you got the value 1.09 you can't assume 1 but anything lower than 1.09 you can assume one. So in general if it is less than .09 away from a whole number you can still round to that whole number.
