Electronegativity on Test
Do we need to know how to calculate the exact number for electronegativity for the midterm and all the tests afterward? If not, is there anything else to know about electronegativity besides the general trends and information?

I think you might need to know if a bond is going to be ionic or covalent based on the electronegativities (above 2 = ionic, below 1.5 = covalent) along with the trends in electronegativity. But since we haven't really done ay problems calculating exact electronegativities yet, I doubt that'll be on the midterm!

We don’t need to calculate the electronegtivity but we do need to know the electronegativity of atoms relative to each other.

I believe we will not receive a period table that lists all the electronegativity of each element. However, it is best to know the relative trends to solve a variety of problems like creating a Lewis structure with the lowest energy arrangement of atoms and electrons.

Because we haven't gone over it, I doubt that we'll need to be able to calculate the exact number. However, you should know the trends from the periodic table.

We will not need to know how to calculate the electronegativity, but we need to know the trend of it in the periodic table. And we need to compare the relative electronegativity between different atoms.

I think you need to know the trend of electronegativity where it is opposite to the size of an atom (where it increases across a period and up a group)
