If we're being super specific, if the electronegativity difference is <2 it is a polar covalent bond and if the electronegativity difference is 0 it is a covalent bond. This designates if it's a bond shared between two of the same element ie C-C (covalent) or different elements ie C-H (polar covalent).
If the electronegativity difference between the two elements is greater than or equal to 2.5 then it is a ionic bond, if the difference is equal to or below 1.5 it is a covalent bond. Basically the greater the difference in electronegativity the more pull on electrons one element will have over the other, meaning the electrons wont be shared evenly.
