Coulombic Attraction
Professor mentioned something about coulombic attraction - what is this exactly?

Re: Coulombic Attraction [ENDORSED]
Electrostatic attraction between opposite charges.
Re-watch my (high definition :-) lecture where I discuss multi-electron atoms at the beginning of electron configurations.

Re: Coulombic Attraction
Exactly what Professor said, it is the attraction between two oppositely charged electrons. This is when protons and electrons are attracted to each other but also when positively charged ions and negatively charged ions are attracted to one another. The size and total charge of the atom are what alter the strength of a coulombic attraction. The strength increases going down a period in the periodic table.
Re: Coulombic Attraction
Coulombic attraction is the force of attraction or repulsion between two opposite charges with equal magnitude, and the forces are separated by some distance.

Re: Coulombic Attraction
This is when there is a negatively charged ion and a positively charged one and they are attracted to each other.
