Achieve Week 5-6 Question 19

Postby Murphy Chuang 1F » Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:04 pm

In class, Dr. Lavelle used H-F H-F interaction as an example of dipole-dipole moment. However, on the achieve, it was classified as a hydrogen bond. Does this mean that it has both intermolecular forces? Or is there different forces depending on which molecule and direction you focus on (H-F to H-F is dipole-dipole and F-H to F-H is hydrogen bonding)?

Hi! Hydrogen bonds are actually a specific type of dipole-dipole moment, so that's why Dr. Lavelle used it as an example of a dipole-dipole moment but in achieve it's listed as a hydrogen bond.
