hi! can someone summarize how & when a dipole moment occurs.

Hi! A dipole moment occurs in any system when there is a separation of charge. This is when there is a difference of electronegativity.You can identify this when there is an unequal distribution of electrons within the entire molecule. For example the dipole moment between NaCl is the largest due to the high separation in charge and ionic bonding. Hope this helped!
