Polar and Non-polar

How do polar and non-polar properties of molecules affect their intermolecular interactions, and what role do these properties play in determining the physical states and solubility of substances?

Polar molecules are more likely to react with other polar molecules (and other molecules in general). Polar molecules generally have stronger intermolecular forces, resulting in higher boiling and melting points and greater solubility.

Polar molecules, with uneven charge distribution, attract each other or other polar substances through strong dipole-dipole interactions. This leads to higher boiling and melting points, and solubility in polar solvents like water. Non-polar molecules, with even charge distribution, interact weakly through London dispersion forces, resulting in lower boiling and melting points, and solubility in non-polar solvents like oil.
