How do we know whether a molecule only exhibits London dispersion forces rather than more than one?

Non-polar molecules will have only London dispersion forces. If the molecule is polar, it will exhibit forces other than London dispersion forces. Dipole–dipole forces occur between molecules with permanent dipoles (i.e., polar molecules). Polar molecules can also induce dipoles in nonpolar molecules, resulting in dipole–induced dipole forces.
