Dipole Moment understanding

So just to clarify, a dipole moment is when there is an angle between two atoms that is anything besides 180 degrees right? If not, can someone give me a conceptual understanding of it?

a dipole moment is a direction of the arrow moving from a partially positive to a partially negative atom. a dipole moment can exist linearly. for example, in HCl, H is partially positive and Cl is partially negative so the dipole moment points toward Cl. Dipole moments can also be drawn on structures with atom bonding at angles.

another way of looking at dipole moments is thinking of the direction in which the electrons are being pulled. Cl is more electronegative than H is, so the electron that is shared between HCl is more likely to be pulled in the direction of Cl.

I think a dipole moment is when there is an uneven sharing of the charges between the atoms. It relates to the partial negatives and partial positives on the atoms due to electronegativity differences. For example in H20 the Hydrogens have a partial positive and the Oxygen has a partial negative which leads to the dipole interaction.

Additionally, it is also when there is a difference in electronegativity great enough for it to be a polar bond. Nonpolar molecules have no dipole movements because the electrons are shared equally, so there are no partial charges. Polar bonds have partial charges because there is an unequal sharing of electrons and more electrons concentrated to the more EN atom.
Ex for C-Cl bond, the electrons would be more towards Cl because it is more EN, so the dipole movement is an arrow towards Cl.

the reponses are really helpful regarding dipole movement. So for clarification dipole movement results in the molecule being polar?

If the dipole moments do not cancel out, that would lead to a polar molecule.
