Bond Lengths

Postby taiyeojeikere-3C » Sat Nov 10, 2018 10:40 pm

How do you determine which bonds are which lengths and if they are shorter or longer?

Single bonds are the longest, then double then triple.

Yes, like said above, single bonds are the longest and weakest bonds, while triple bonds are the shortest but the strongest types of bonds with double bonds in the middle of the two. The shorter bonds are more likely involved in a reaction, and shorter bonds tend to be less reactive.

Single bonds are longer than double and triple bonds, however the shorter bonds are the strongest.

The atomic size can increase the bond length.

Single bonds are the longest, then double bonds, then triple bonds.
The shortest bonds have the highest energy.
