### Interaction potential energy, relation to distance

Can someone clarify the equation $E=\frac{\alpha 1 *\alpha 2}{r^6}$

Specifically, what is meant by $\frac{1}{r^6}$ being a strong dependence?
We talked about it during Wednesday's lecture.

It means the distance would affect the strength of the energy. Since r is to the 6th power it makes energy very dependable to distance.

The closer together the electrons are, which is relative to r, the bigger interaction energy there is and the harder it is to break those bonds.
