Interaction potential energy, relation to distance

Postby Kathryn 1F » Sun Nov 11, 2018 12:31 pm

Can someone clarify the equation

Specifically, what is meant by being a strong dependence?
We talked about it during Wednesday's lecture.

It means the distance would affect the strength of the energy. Since r is to the 6th power it makes energy very dependable to distance.

The closer together the electrons are, which is relative to r, the bigger interaction energy there is and the harder it is to break those bonds.
