Interaction potential energy

Postby Selena Yu 1H » Sat Nov 09, 2019 8:37 pm

Why is the interaction potential energy always negative? What makes the interaction potential energy negative?

I think the interaction potential energy is always negative because whenever atoms interact, they are doing so because they want to be more stable than they are when they are alone. Therefore, energy is always released and the potential energy is negative because when atoms form a bond, they are becoming more stable.
