Dissociation Energies

Postby Trent Yamamoto 2J » Mon Nov 11, 2019 10:32 am

Why is dissociation energy, which is required to break a bond, always positive?

Dissociation energy is always positive because bond-breaking is always an endothermic process, as the system requires energy to break a bond.

Breaking bonds always requires energy while forming bonds releases energy
