dipole moments

Postby Tylina Guo 1K » Fri Dec 03, 2021 11:20 pm

Are we going to be expected to calculate dipole moments using the given formula on the final?

I don't think so. I was told that the content on the final is going to reflect how much time we spent on the material during lecture, and I don't remember spending any time on calculating dipole moments. I think we just need to understand the concept of them.

I agree with the above post, I think any dipole moment questions will most likely be more conceptual than mathematical.

Would that be the same for induced dipole moments and other IMFs?

So far, dipoles have been more of a conceptual question rather than computational like someone previously mentioned. However, I think for future reference it would not hurt to memorize a few common atoms to determine dipoles for, especially for organic chem :)
