Can anyone explain dipole moment in simple terms?

A dipole moment, in simple terms, is when there is a charge difference between two atoms. HCL, for example. H has a +1 charge and Cl has a -1 charge, therefore there is a dipole moment.

In theory, it is also one atom favoring electrons causing it to have a partial negative charge. Since one atom is favoring electrons, there is a slight positive charge on the other side of the molecule.

It is when there is a difference in charge between two atoms

A dipole moment occurs when there is a separation of charge.

One atom attracts the electrons more (sort of pulling on them more), thus it ends up with a more negative charge. The other atom, however, was slightly robbed of electrons, thus it becomes positively charged. Dipole moment is this very difference in charges

A dipole moment occurs when atoms has different charges, such as one atom has a 1- charge and the other atom has a 1+ charge.
