Interactions Between Ions

Postby joliet1k » Fri Nov 08, 2024 12:15 am

During Monday's lecture, Dr. Lavelle wrote the numeric value "-250 kJ/mol" for the ion-ion interaction between Na+ and Cl-. Does this value refer to the dissociation energy, the ionization energy, or the potential energy of the bond?

I believe that -250kJ/mol would be the bond potential energy. Therefore, 250kJ/mol is the amount of energy that would have to be put in to break that bond, and it is high because ion-ion interations are strong interactions
