Which has the stronger bond?

Postby 605988349 » Sat Dec 09, 2023 4:05 pm

Hello,

I don't know how to figure out which bond between C2+ and C2- has the stronger bond. Can anyone help me figure out which bond is stronger and why?

Thank you!

Hey of u mean C2 with a +1 charge and a C2 with a -1 charge, the stronger bond length will be the C2 with a +1 charge. This is because it indicated that an afectaron was lost. This means that the attraction between the outer electrons and the protons in the nucleus of the atom have a stringer attraction between them. This reduces the atomic size of one of the C atoms which in turn, shortens the bond length. A shorter bond length means it is a stronger.
