Bond Length

Postby Lily Nguyen 3G » Thu Nov 09, 2017 4:26 pm

Does bond length have any correlation with ionic character?
If yes, please explain.

No, bond length and ionic character are not correlated. Ionic character is just referring to the electrons.

Bond length has to do with electrons being shared, and can therefore be determined by the number of bonds. For example, a single bond has the longest bond length, and a triple bond has the shortest bond length.

Adding on to the previous response, since single bonds are longer, they are weaker than triple bonds which are shorter and stronger.
