Is one single bond larger than a two double bonds? or three triple bonds? is there any way to calculate this or is this just general knowledge?

I'm not sure if there's any formula for bond length (at least not one that we've covered) but generally triple bonds are shorter than double bonds which are shorter than single bonds. it has to do with the fact that when you share more electrons, they're more strongly drawn to the nuclei of the atoms that share them.

*in order of decreasing bond length
triple bonds <double bonds < single bonds

-no rule, just general knowledge. The person above me did a wonderful job at explaining the reasoning behind it :)

I don't think the lengths are as clear-cut as that. Double bonds are shorter than single bonds (a triple shorter than double) because it has to do with how the electron orbitals overlap and to what extent

it's just a general knowledge and is always true.
double bond is longer than triple bond but shorter than single bond.

Also, the shorter the bond length the stronger it is.

As the response above me was getting at, remember that with decreases bond length you have increasing bond strength. We know that triple bonds have the largest bond strength and so they have the the shortest bond length.

Single bonds are longer than double bonds, and double bonds are longer than triple bonds. This is because of the strength of the bonds.

Is there any sort of calculation/equation where we will have to use specific values of bond length?

So, is the number of bond lengths determined by the number of different bonds (single bond, double bond, triple bond) there are?
