Hi i was just wondering what an antibond is, can someone clarify please?

An antibond works to weaken the bond between two atoms in order to raise the energy of the molecule as a whole. The density of the electrons builds up outside the bond to create a repulsive force between the atoms to separate them. I don't think we need to know this for the final, but hope it helps!

An antibonding orbital is a type of molecular orbital (MO) that weakens the bond between two atoms and helps to raise the energy of the molecule relative to the separated atoms. Such an orbital has one or more nodes in the bonding region between the nuclei.
