Postby DanielleNario1A » Wed Nov 07, 2018 10:48 pm

How does the presence of lone pairs affect bond strength?

Lone pairs on neighboring atoms will repel each other. This causes the bonds to weaken as the electron pairs try to move farther apart from one another.

Lone pairs make the bond strength in a single molecule weaker as well, because the lone pairs repel each other!
