Polarity of different bond lengths
Does the multiplicity of bonds affect the polarity of a bond at all? For example, if you had a single polar bond between two elements, would a double bond between the same two elements make the bond more polar than it originally was?

Re: Polarity of different bond lengths
I don't believe so, because Polarity is determined by difference in electronegativity, which isn't changed by the presence of a double bond. However, in a larger molecule I'm not sure whether or not the presence of a double bond on one side and a single on the other would create a dipole moment. I don't believe so though.

I think that it would have some effect, but it probably isn't something that will make a difference in this class.

Re: Polarity of different bond lengths
Higher bond orders are shorter than single bonds. Therefore, this difference in bond length might have a small effect on how electrons are pulled by atoms. However, I don't think this significantly impacts polarity of the molecule and I don't think we will need to know this for any test.
