I'm not 100% on this but I believe Dissociation energy is always positive because breaking a bond will always require an input of energy, if it were to release energy dissociation energy would be negative but that can't happen because breaking a bond is going from a lower potential energy to a higher potential energy.
Dissociation energy is defined as the energy needed to break every chemical bond in a molecule and completely separate all of its atoms. This bond-breaking process is endothermic as it requires an input of energy to do so, and will always result in a positive number.
