resonance bond length

Postby Mallika Singh 1G » Sun Nov 24, 2019 10:50 pm

given a triple bond, a double bond, a single bond, and a double bond in a resonance structure, where would the resonance bond length lie in comparison to the others?

From least to greatest bond length, it would be triple bond, double bond, double bond with resonance, and then single bond. The double bond with resonance is larger than just the double bond because its bond length is between that of a double bond and a single bond.

The electron pair is shared in resonance, making it not as strong as the double bond.
